Law firms make the case for deep carbon cuts
A group of some of the UK’s leading law firms has slashed its carbon emissions by almost 35,000 tonnes in the last year, according to a new report. The Legal Sector Alliance (LSA) yesterday published its latest picture of climate change performance across the legal sector, which also confirms that more than a third of private practice solicitors have now signed up to a voluntary carbon disclosure project. Over 50 of the Alliance’s 235 members are using a specialised carbon reporting tool.

Puma parent PPR to expand groundbreaking environmental accounting to all brands
French apparel company PPR announced it will expand the environmental accounting process it performed for its Puma brand across its entire group of brands, which includes Gucci, Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent. Puma’s Environmental Profit & Loss Account (E P&L), completed last year, was a first-of-its-kind attempt to monetise the value of ecosystem services used across a company’s entire supply chain. Puma found that cost to be €145 million for the year 2010. PPR says the group E P&L will help in identifying new opportunities across the supply chain to enhance the sustainability of PPR’s products.

Ford to EV dealers: meet environmental requirements
Ford Motor is not only rolling out new electric vehicles (EVs), but has also committed to greening its entire supply chain. Ford certification for dealers selling the Focus Electric and other models mandates that such businesses install a minimum of two onsite electric charging stations. Those same dealers must also participate in a Ford assessment programme that identifies energy efficiency opportunities, ways to lower operating expenses and suggests initiatives that will lower overall carbon emissions.
