Public and Private Sector Collaboration
Hillary Clinton opens Global Impact Economy Forum
Hillary Clinton has opened the U.S. State Department’s Global Impact Economy Forum with a plea for the creation of “shared value” in the global economy. The Secretary‘s Global Impact Economy Forum will gather 250 high-level investors, business executives, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, academics, and policymakers to discuss how to create greater coordination, collaboration, and efficiency, and to “create opportunities to enhance and expand the Impact Economy.” Clinton said that it is “a great moment to look at where we stand in the world in the pursuit of economic growth and prosperity that is broadly inclusive and sustainable.”

Outsourcing the state: A less uniform approach
Last month, many corporate hopefuls pitched to Surrey and West Midlands police, two of Britain’s big regional forces. On offer was a £1.5billion, seven-year contract that would for the first time put the private sector in the vanguard of enforcing law and order by allowing it to help in operational police duties such as investigating crimes and detaining suspects. The government seems to remain committed to scaling back the role of the state in public service provision but ministers appear to have trimmed their ambitions. Officials now emphasise a range of models – from not-for-profit social enterprises to joint ventures between private companies and charities.
