Tesco in CSR push
Tesco has launched a campaign to encourage customers to donate Clubcard points accrued for environmentally friendly behaviour to help fund a rainforest conservation initiative. Customers are invited to donate Green Clubcard points earned for reusing carrier bags and recycling printer ink cartridges or cans in store to the programme. The supermarket is partnering with the Royal Society of Protection of Birds (RSPB) and hopes to raise £1 million in the first year and also increase awareness of deforestation.

Fast food packaging study finds McDonald’s and Starbucks are green leaders
The work McDonald’s and Starbucks have done to make their packaging more recyclable or reduce the amount of material used has earned them high praise from the Dogwood Alliance. In its latest report, Greening Fast Food Packaging, the environmental group lays out eight steps to help companies move to more sustainable packaging, illustrated with actions already being taken by major brands. McDonald’s was praised for cutting out 84 tonnes of paper in 2010 while Starbucks, has taken a number of steps toward its goal of providing only reusable or recyclable cups by 2015.
Asda initiative aims to improve supply chain sustainability
UK supermarket group Asda, a division of Walmart, is seeking to improve the efficiency of its supply chain and boost corporate sustainability by launching a peer-to-peer exchange. The Asda Sustain & Save Exchange, has been created to help the retail group explore new ways of collaborating with suppliers. According to Julian Walker-Palin, head of corporate sustainability, the benefits of the exchange for suppliers include direct access to information, ideas, experts and their peers to develop ideas and demonstrate leadership.

CARE launches agricultural programme to improve food security in South Asia and Africa
CARE, the global fighting poverty organisation, has announced the start of its new Pathways programme. Pathways will enable 150,000 women smallholder farmers and their families over five years in Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Malawi, Mali and Tanzania improve food security and long-term resiliency by implementing and scaling a model which will improve their access to land, water, markets, agricultural training and services. The Pathways initiative is supported by a $15 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Donald Trump to fund anti-wind farm campaign
An anti-wind farm campaign is set to receive financial backing from American tycoon Donald Trump, who has opposed plans for an off-shore farm to be built near his luxury golf course in Scotland. Mr Trump is fighting a planning application submitted to Marine Scotland last year for an 11 turbine off-shore wind farm near his Menie resort in Aberdeen Bay and has now pledged financial support to the group Communities Against Turbines Scotland (CATS). Representatives from the Trump Organisation are expected to meet with the campaign group next week to finalise financial support plans.

New AT&T eco-rating system to help consumers learn about environmental features of mobiles
People eager to check out the newest, fastest and coolest mobile handset devices will soon be able to learn about its environmental features too thanks to AT & T. The telecommunications company is planning to launch a new eco-rating system developed in collaboration with BSR, a global business network and consultancy focused on sustainability. Consumers will find AT&T eco-ratings on simple on AT&T-branded mobile devices, which will cover attributes such as: environmentally preferable materials, energy efficiency, and environmentally-responsible manufacturing.
