The consultancy, SustainAbility, has issued an assessment of the top 50 sustainability reporters, including Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) pilot companies, as part of its long-standing work with the UNEP. BAA was judged to have produced the best report, and British-based companies dominate the top six slots – The Co-operative Bank, BT, BP and Shell plus Denmark’s Novo Nordisk . The oil and pharmaceutical sectors are marked out as the best performers.
The report identifies a ten point future agenda, addressing the need to:
• establish the business case for sustainability with the mainstream investment community;
• move to on-line real time reporting;
• address the lack of systematic coverage in the reports of company impact, directly and through the supply chain, in developing countries and the former communist block. Contact SustainAbility on 020 7245 1116 (http://www.sustainability.co.uk)
