Sustainable value

February 11, 2008

Part novel, part executive briefing, Laszlo has written this book in an accessible way, aimed at both the young professional and time-short manager alike. Part one tells Deena’s story, a young, successful woman, who manages a heavily polluting company that is coming under ever increasing attack from environmentalists resulting in the effective destruction of profits and value. Laszlo describes how Deena realises how to generate new and sustained profits whilst protecting society and the environment. Part two provides real-life examples that describe the stories of mainstream companies that are ‘doing well by doing good’. These case-studies include DuPont, Wal-Mart, Lafarge, and NatureWorks (a Cargill subsidiary). The third and final part of this book introduces the reader to ‘the sustainable value toolkit’, which provides a framework on how to achieve environmental/social sustainability in an organisation, not just because of the moral necessity to do so, but because it makes good business sense.
