Campaign Round-Up (August/September 2007)

October 03 2007

by Briefing staff

This edition’s campaigns include a push to encourage corporations to cut carbon emissions and people to shopping locally as well as giving to charity via your stay at a Hilton hotel.

The Big Ask March

With the aim of forcing all UK industries to address their carbon emissions, Friends of the Earth are hosting a digital show of force by way of an ‘online march’ that they hope might convince policy makers of the need for strong legislation. Supporters are asked to create and post a short video message about “the importance of taking action on climate change” on the campaign website, www.thebigask.com. However, for the less technologically aware, or inclined, you can send an email instead.

Make shopping fair: Every little helps

Friends of the Earth have launched an online advert aimed at raising awareness of the growing dominance of supermarket chains and the struggle local independent shops face in retaining a foothold in the market. Indicatively named Every Little Helps, the advert aims to encourage people to shop locally. A parallel campaign urges people to email the Competition Commission to Make Shopping Fair.

Hilton in the community

The Hilton in the Community Foundation is inviting hotel guests at Hilton hotels in the UK and Ireland to donate an optional £1 or 1 euro to their hotel bill during October, November and December. The campaign – Small Change, Big Difference – raises money for terminally ill children and their families. The Hilton in the Community Foundation is Hilton International’s charitable foundation.
